This workshop is offered in cooperation with Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. Leah Limpert Walt will serve as the instructor. The workshop will be offered on Saturday, May 13 and Saturday, May 20.
There are many components that make up an accurate likeness in portraiture. More abstract concepts and a basic anatomical understanding of the head are always helpful tools to understanding what you’re really looking for in your portrait drawing. This extended workshop demonstrates the function behind vocabulary like: proportions, structure, planes of the head, gesture, rhythm, value, and their respective relationships that come together in your drawing to create likeness. A small variety of drawing media will be explored as we discuss surfaces, techniques, and capabilities of various media. Expect to gain confidence in portrait drawing materials and methods and accuracy in your portrait drawings.
Note: This is a seated two-hour class. Wearing a smock or older clothing may be helpful when working with charcoal. Please bring a notebook for taking notes.
