“We had lived in our carriage home at Garden Spot Village for 19 years,” says Sally Mittelstadt.
Since moving to Garden Spot Village in January 2005, Sally and her husband Vern have been deeply engaged with the community. In addition to volunteering and participating in micro-communities, Sally and Vern loved Garden Spot’s lock-and-leave lifestyle. They would often travel at the last minute, enjoying cruises that took them to exotic places around the world.
Sally and Vern anticipated downsizing from their carriage home to an apartment at some point, so they declined the 13-year refurbishment Garden Spot Village offers. A medical incident sparked an interest in moving sooner rather than later, so they connected with the sales team in early 2023 to see what their options were.
Sales Director Kelly Sweigart explained to them that although residents do get some priority, it can take up to 24 months to move within the community.
Sally and Vern chose to move to a Village Square Apartment because it was a parallel move for them – the entrance fee was comparable to what they paid for their Carriage Home. The monthly fee was also comparable. Because they declined the refurbishment, their only cost was the transfer fee.
Sally believes the proximity to the community makes an apartment a better choice for them long-term. “We are closer to healthcare if one of us needs skilled nursing, we have access to meals at the Harvest Table and the other restaurants. Garden Spot Village At Home is very convenient located too,” says Sally.
“We were realistic in our planning as we looked toward the future. There comes a time when more support, limited space and access to services is necessary,” she explains.
“Working with the sales team through this move has been so smooth; they were transparent with the timelines for renovations and most importantly, they met the timelines. This has been a beautiful Garden Spot Village experience,” Sally says. “The people who moved from the apartment where we now live, were able to get the support they needed in personal care and we were able to find a home that fits our needs better in this next season of life.”
