It’s already mid-July! That means we are halfway through summer vacation and everyone is taking different trips worldwide. Summer is a time when everyone can explore. A time when everyone can go on a new adventure. While it might be hot outside, that shouldn’t stop you from venturing into the great outdoors, even if it’s going out into your own backyard. Pennsylvania alone has more than 295 hiking trails and 650 walking trails. Three different entrances to the Warwick-to-Ephrata Rail Trail are only a short 25 minute drive from Garden Spot Village.

The Warwick-to-Ephrata Rail Trail is 7.1 miles long. The rail trail goes from Hazel Alley and Acorn Alley (Ephrata) to N Oak St between Front St and SR 772/E Main Street (Lititz) with multiple entrances throughout. Parking and restrooms are available throughout the trail.

The rail trail is accessible to anybody whether you’re walking, riding a bike, or in a wheelchair. It’s dog friendly for all breeds and sizes as well. Views from the trail include fields, wooded areas, farmers’ markets and homes—views that make Lancaster County special.

Walking can benefit and maintain your health in multiple ways. According to Better Health Channel, “Just 30 minutes every day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance.”

If you are older even a short walk can still improve your health. The best advice when it comes to walking is to not push your limits. If you can only do a short walk, only do a short walk. Don’t forget to warm up with a slow walk and to cool down afterwards, including stretches to ease your leg muscles. Make sure you have good walking shoes so you don’t have foot or shin pain. Walking can also be helpful to people with anxiety and other mental health concerns.

So if you can, go for a walk with a friend! Your dog would also be happy to join you.
