Selling your home for the first time or even the second can be overwhelming. With lots of due dates and packaging tape, it’s hard to remember everything on your to-do list. Luckily, these four tips to get your house show-ready are a great starting point.
Prepare your home for buyers
Appeal to buyers by highlighting the house, not your items. Update bedrooms by painting neutral colors, tear down old wallpaper and tile. Keep the home as neutral as possible to appeal to a wider range of potential buyers.
Minimalize
Clear out 25% of your items before the open house, focusing on emptying out closets and cabinets. Whatever you don’t plan to donate or throw away, place in boxes in the garage or basement. By doing this, it allows potential buyers to envision their own items in your spaces.
Clean
This is not your average “ten minute tidy up,” the goal of cleaning before selling your home is to have every inch of your home sparkle. Deep cleaning includes: shampooing carpets, scouring grout, dusting and wiping down high and low. Cleaning also includes your outside spaces. A fresh cut lawn, new mulch, trimmed bushes and picked weeds will elevate your home’s curb appeal.
“Light” up your home
LED soft white bulbs have become popular among interior designers due to the brightness they give off. Installing these bulbs into your fixtures will give your home a glow, and will also highlight all the cleaning you did. Fresh white linens, pillows and sheer curtains also give your home a neutral feel.
