This workshop is offered in cooperation with Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. Joanna Spicer will serve as the instructor. The workshop will be offered on Thursday, April 13 and Thursday, April 20.
This two-day workshop will begin with a brief discussion and examples shown prior to beginning our own hands-on experience of creating fabrics and collage. Participants will learn and explore clamping and resist techniques with fabric to create patterns and new surfaces through color removal. Students will utilize their created fabric to make a no-sew fabric collage.
You will be utilizing chemicals like bleach and vinegar to transform fabric and will be given gloves to wear along with safety demonstrations. We will work in water and will be using binder clips and other items to clamp our fabric materials. We will get a little messy! Workshop participants may bring beads, yarn, string, etc. that they may want to incorporate as embellishment.
Notes: This is a two-hour class that will involve sitting and standing. Make sure you wear comfortable clothing that can get messy. Feel free to bring a notebook for taking notes.
